An interview with Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan, Executive Director of the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) and speaker at the Panel Discussion, recently organised by the IFLA Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Division Committee in the context of the UN Africa Regional Forum for Sustainable Development.
On the 25th February 2022, the IFLA Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Division Committee (IFLA SSA RDC) organised a Panel Discussion as a side event in the context of the UN Africa Regional Forum for Sustainable Development to be held in Kigali Rwanda during 3-5 March 2022 on theme: Building forward better: African library partnerships for inclusive information and education towards Agendas 2030 and 2063.
IFLA has responded to a call for comments on the South African Copyright Amendment Bill, highlighting the need to reject proposals that will have a chilling effect on the work of libraries, and deepen divisions in terms of access to education, knowledge and culture.
The UNESCO Online Consultation on Cultural Policies for the Africa Region was held on 31 January and 1 February, hosted by the Republic of Senegal. IFLA was represented, making the case for libraries to be involved, from the design to the delivery of cultural policies and strategies.
