Catch up with IFLA’s leadership at WLIC!
11 August 2023
Interested in how IFLA’s Governing Board is working for our members? Make the most of the opportunities to meet with its members at our Congress to ask your questions and find out more.
The World Library and Information Congress is primarily about providing a space for IFLA’s volunteers and members, and in particular colleagues from host countries and regions to come together to share, learn and create.
But alongside this, it is also a chance to catch up on IFLA’s wider governance, and meet the people involved, in particular the Governing Board. It is clear that our members care a lot about how decisions are taken that shape the present and future of our Federation, and are keen to find out more.
The Board is of course fully elected already. Over the last year, it has worked – both through publishing updates to work on the Plan for Securing IFLA’s Future, and simpler, quicker summaries of its meetings – to boost information flows and understanding about its work.
The 2023 World Library and Information Congress will be an opportunity to continue in this direction.
Our ‘Meet the Governing Board’ session takes place on Wednesday 23 August, from 11:30 to 13:00, in room Port 1 B, and will be live-streamed, allowing for full remote participation by registered delegates. The Board will all be present, and talk through their work over the last year, and priorities for the future, with plenty of time left for questions.
We of course also have our General Assembly, which will start on Wednesday 23 August, from 16:00 to 18:00, and continue on Thursday 24 August from 15:00 to 17:00. These sessions will also be hybrid, and members will receive the relevant information to participate online if they are not there in person. This will receive formal reports on IFLA’s work and finances, with further opportunities to ask questions.
In addition to these sessions, Governing Board members will also be spending time at the IFLA Booth in order to meet with Congress participants (come along and see the programme!), and many are also organising Braindate sessions.
So use the opportunity at WLIC to find out more about the work of the board and get your questions answered!
