IFLA Policies
In addition to its Statutes and Rules of Procedure, and in compliance with legal requirements, IFLA has further policies which apply to our work.
Data Protection
IFLA works with the data of European Union citizens, and therefore is subject to the EU General Data Protection Regulation. Independently, IFLA aims to optimise the quality of personal data processing security, with a balance of privacy, functionality and safety.
IFLA’s Data Protection Policy sets out rules for how we process personal data of our members, affiliates, active Professional Unit volunteers, employees, guests, visitors and external connections, inside and outside of the European Union.
This Policy extends to the fully or partially-automated processing of personal data and included attachments under the responsibility of IFLA.

Languages
According to the 2014 IFLA Language Policy, IFLA has seven official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish. English is IFLA’s operating language.
IFLA members may express themselves in any of these official languages at conferences, in meetings of professional and governance bodies and in correspondence to IFLA Headquarters (HQ). Within the limits of its resources, IFLA provides translations of its webpages, official communications and texts, and interpretations of World Library and Information Congress sessions.

Branding Guidelines
IFLA’s branding guidelines provide instructions for how IFLA and its work are represented inside and outside the Federation. IFLA monitors the usage of its name and brand regularly to ensure that it is represented in accordance with these guidelines.
IFLA’s name is expressed in its seven official languages as:
International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions
Most uses of the IFLA name, acronym and logo require prior written approval by the IFLA Secretary General, or, in the case of policy and other statements, by the IFLA Governing Board. This ensures that IFLA’s name and logo can be used consistently for the benefit of IFLA’s members and partners.
