Tales of rising from the ashes:
rebuilding libraries/museums after a disaster

Abstract
On Sunday, 18 April 2021, a runaway wildfire engulfed the University of Cape Town’s Jagger Reading Room and destroyed much of its special collections including rare books, films, photographs and records. Sadly, such destruction of libraries/archives/museums by fires or other natural disasters are not rare. Each part of the world has had its fair share of intensive damage to iconic library buildings and resources caused by fire or other natural disasters.
The IFLA ARL section will be hosting a webinar on the recovery, restoration and rebuilding of libraries/museums after destruction by fire and other natural disasters. The Section seeks to use this opportunity to raise awareness about the problem and to contribute to the knowledge about the rebuilding of libraries, archives, and museums.
The webinar is composed of panelists from all over the world who were intimately involved in experiencing and dealing with a disaster. The panelists will share their experiences and perspectives on how they managed to recover, rebound and rebuilt their institutions from the devastating effects of disasters.

IFLAPARL and IPU Joint Virtual Conference “Parliamentary library & research services – towards an agenda for the next decade”

The IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section (IFLAPARL) as the global organisation of parliamentary library & research services, will offer a joint conference with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The conference will include several sessions of presentations and panel discussions each day on a variety of topical issues, including a presentation of the results of the 2021 COVID-19 Survey of parliamentary services; parliamentary strengthening support for library and research services; data collection; accessibility; service strategies; and a workshop day of particular interest to new and developing services and to younger professionals and managers. This will be an online virtual event, free of charge to registered delegates. Interpretation to and from English, French and Spanish will be available in the plenary meeting room. All sessions will include time for questions & answers or another form of participation by delegates.
