Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly prevalent in all areas of human activity, including libraries. New solutions are being developed to significantly simplify certain library procedures and processes. These include the automation of routine processes, such as automatic categorization of library materials, personalized book and resource recommendations based on user information needs, advanced information search and filtering, recognition of various images and audio recordings, digitization of manuscripts and rare books, library system management, preservation of library materials, and more.

We are delighted to invite you to a webinar on the Practical Application of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries. Our speakers are recognized experts in the fields of artificial intelligence, who will share their knowledge, experiences, and best practices. In addition to lectures, there will be time for questions and interactive participation.

Following speakers expected:

  • Edmund Balnaves, Director of Prosentient Systems and former Chair of the IFLA IT Section – will explain the concept of artificial intelligence give a brief Introduction to its use in libraries;
  • José Eduardo Cejudo Grano de Oro, Europeana Foundation – will present Machine Learning at Europeana;
  • Alexandra Adamova, National Library of France – will talk about Gallica Images project;
  • Jean-Philippe Moreux, National Library of France, expert scientifique Gallica – will introduce their AI road map;
  • Inna Kobal, Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia – will speak about AI and machine learning in text analysis tools (ODEUROPA project);
  • Mojca Rupar Korošec, National and University Library, Ljubljana,  Slovenia – will speak about data literacy and ethical use of data;
  • Andrew Cox, convenor of the IFLA Special Interest Group for Artificial Intelligence and Sheffield University – will present ethical use of AI in practice.

This seminar is intended for librarians, information professionals, researchers, and anyone interested in understanding what artificial intelligence is, the importance of data and metadata quality stored in libraries, how machine learning influences pattern recognition, and how artificial intelligence can enhance the functioning of libraries and benefit users.
