WILSIG provides a space to explore the complex, global aspects of the information needs of female identifying individuals (women), focusing on them as users of library and information services, as workers in the library field, and as providers of information.

Women play a crucial role in realising basic human rights for all and in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Meeting their information needs is a major contribution of the library field to global development.

Our aims

  • To create a space where complex, difficult issues are explored
  • To identify the information needs and barriers to information access by women, especially in underserved communities.
  • To advocate the development of comprehensive and accessible library and information services, especially for women as crucial actors in sustainable, equitable, and thoughtful global development.
  • To encourage and foster relevant ties among the organisations and institutions in the library community and organisations related to women.
  • To disseminate information in support of the goals and objectives of IFLA internationally.

Activities

We organise WLIC sessions and satellite meetings in different formats (traditional conference, unconference, round tables…), cooperate with IFLA units and other institutions, relay information on relevant topics, enable through every possible means the continued conversation around women and girls’ information needs.
