Candidacies are welcomed for 1 position as co-opted member of IFLA’s incoming Latin America and Caribbean Regional Division Committee.

The deadline to submit your self-nomination is 17 July 2023, 18:00 CEST (see what time this is for you).  The Chair of the Committee will make an initial selection from the candidacies received, which will be approved by the Regional Council.

Candidates are expected to provide a statement of up to 200 words to justify their candidacy. This information will be shared with the Chair of the Regional Division Committee, and the members of the Regional Council, to aid in their decision-making. You can apply using this link.

For reference, the expectations of candidates are set out below:

Alongside other Members of the Committee, the successful candidate is responsible for:

  1. working together to develop and deliver action plans responding to the needs of the library field in their region and review progress on delivering the IFLA Strategy;
  2. building capacity to advocate at all levels, and identify and work on advocacy priorities, cooperating with Sections and Advisory Committees, as well as other organisations, and also contribute actively to efforts to engage Members in the region;
  3. building awareness of IFLA’s work, and reach out to non-Members.

As with other members of the Committee, in addition to being based in the region (see list of countries), the successful candidate is expected to be able to show:

  • an interest and experience in library policies and advocacy;
  • expertise, experience and interest in/across libraries in the region;
  • ability to represent the interests of a diverse range of colleagues;
  • experience in communication, representation and networking;
  • willingness and ability to devote time and energy to the role – this is usually several hours per month;
  • time allowance to prepare and attend meetings of the Regional Division Council;
  • an ability to act with respect, trust, confidentiality and transparency and recognize the need to protect personal and privileged information. They must declare any conflicts of interest and abstain from discussions where they have a conflict or potential conflict of interest.

The purpose of co-option is to increase the range and diversity of experience and expertise in the Committee. Following consultation with the incoming Chair of the Committee, as well as the Chair of the Regional Council, candidacies are therefore particularly welcomed from:

  • Countries (and language groups) which are not currently represented on the Committee (see the list of elected members)
  • Representatives of under-represented library types
  • Experienced leaders who can transfer knowledge to new members and are willing to help achieve committee goals

La candidatura es bienvenida para un  (1) puesto como miembro cooptado del Comité de la División Regional de América Latina y el Caribe de la IFLA.

El candidato debe enviar una declaración de hasta 200 palabras explicando su experiencia y motivación para presentarse al Comité antes de las 6:00 p. m. CEST del 17 de julio de 2023 (vea a qué hora es para usted). El candidato debe postularse utilizando este formulario.

El Presidente entrante del Comité hará una primera selección de las candidaturas recibidas, que será aprobada por el Consejo Regional entrante.

Junto con otros Miembros del Comité, el candidato seleccionado es responsables de:

  • trabajar juntos para desarrollar y entregar planes de acción que respondan a las necesidades del campo bibliotecario en su región y revisar el progreso en la implementación de la Estrategia de la IFLA;
  • desarrollar la capacidad para abogar en todos los niveles, e identificar y trabajar en las prioridades de abogacía, cooperando con las Secciones y los Comités Asesores, así como con otras organizaciones, y también contribuyendo activamente a los esfuerzos para involucrar a los Miembros en la región;
  • crear conciencia sobre el trabajo de la IFLA y llegar a los no miembros.

Al igual que con otros miembros del Comité, además de estar basados en la región (ver lista de países), se espera que puedan mostrar:

  • interés y experiencia en políticas bibliotecarias y promoción;
  • experiencia e interés en/a través de las bibliotecas de la región;
  • para representar los intereses de una amplia gama de colegas;
  • en comunicación, representación y networking;
  • y capacidad para dedicar tiempo y energía al puesto; esto suele ser varias horas al mes;
  • de tiempo para preparar y asistir a las reuniones del Consejo de División Regional;
  • capacidad de actuar con respeto, confianza, confidencialidad y transparencia y reconocer la necesidad de proteger la información personal y privilegiada.
  • declarar cualquier conflicto de intereses y abstenerse de las discusiones en las que tengan un conflicto o potencial conflicto de intereses.

El propósito de la cooptación es aumentar el rango y la diversidad de experiencia y conocimientos en el Comité. Luego de consultar con el Presidente entrante del Comité, así como con el Presidente entrante del Consejo Regional, las candidaturas son por lo tanto particularmente bienvenidas de:

  • que actualmente no están representados en el Comité (ver la lista de miembros electos)
  • de tipos de bibliotecas subrepresentadas
  • experimentado  que pueda trasladar sus conocimientos a los nuevos miembros y  esté dispuesto para ayudar a lograr los objetivos del  Comité.
